about me~

Hi! I'm nyuung noy, which means little mosquito in lao. This nickname was given to me because i always follow really closely behind my loved ones (especially my mom when i was little lol, she kept bumping into me when turning around because i was always literally right behind her), and because i'm always singing or humming. So that is where my artist name and my little logo have evolved from. (And the nopales represent my partner!)

My personal background and internet journey

Overview and 2000s-early 2010s Nostalgia

I wanted to make my lil personal site because I have become more of an internet girly (not a girl) or "chronically online" as my chronic illness has made me various degrees of at least partially homebound for the past 10 years, and out of a sense of nostalgia for the older internet. I'm a late 90s/elder gen z kid so I missed the classic internet, but I did discover some cool webpages on my family computer. My technology nostalgia looks like this: Going with my sister to friends' and neighbors' houses after school and playing Barbie Secret Agent, Barbie Riding Club, or Barbie Pet Rescue together. Our family Gamecube which we'd play Mario Kart Double Dash, Kirby Air Ride, Hello Kitty Roller Rescue, Shrek 2, Super Smash Bros Melee, and Harvest Moon Another Wonderful Life. Getting up early on Saturdays for years to watch new Pokemon episodes live (I learned to cook scrambled eggs to make myself breakfast sandwiches when I was like 9 because I was always up long before everyone else on the weekends). Saving up quarters from the tooth fairy to buy a Tamagotchi V4 and my friends and I going out into the field during recess to play with our little guys. My first phone, which was a Sony Ericsson flip phone, and having to call my friends to tell them off because they would go over my 50 texts per month limit in one night from sending me chain mail that would split into many messages because of my character limits. Listening to music pretty much only on burned CDs and the radio.

My only internet exposure for a few years was pretty much just for school research papers, things people showed me, or fandom stuff. Going into middle school, my friend's little brothers showed us Dumb Ways to Die, The Duck Song, all those Minecraft parody songs (my fav) etc. The boys in our grade were showing everyone hentai and porn. Hangouts with friends were showing each other music videos (ex. my friend showing me Lady Gaga for the first time). And then fandom-wise, I was big in the Pokemon fandom and loved lurking in DeviantArt and random forums to see other Pokemon fans; I would look up video game walkthroughs for Pokemon, Uncharted, DQIX, FFXIV, and more, which were usually just massive text blocks in a mono font on a white background; and quizzes like on Buzzfeed and Pottermore.

2010s: finding myself in fandom

In eighth grade, I got my first smart phone, and then I started settling into myself and my interests and hobbies more. My happiest routine was I would do my schoolwork, read my books, make my art, play my Pokemon, watch my anime, and then on Fridays I would turn down going out with friends so I could read free manga on sketchy websites and go to sleep by 10pm so I could wake up early on Saturday to watch Pokemon before my soccer games lol. This was a time where nerd culture was still shameful but also really large, so I had to keep my open enjoyment of Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Star Wars, anime, etc. to just my close friend group, or in fandom spaces online. So of course I was reading fanfiction. I consider myself raised on fanfiction. I was on, and I mean on, fanfiction.net, LiveJournal, Wattpad, AO3, and tumblr.

Late 2010s-2020s: Becoming Chronically Ill/Online

In high school, my friends got me into EXO and Twice, and I became very busy from classes, clubs, and sports, so my internet experience for a few years was limited to just Kpop fandom, fanfiction, and music videos my friends shared with me (sapphic this time lol). A month into college, I started dealing with some health issues, and had to return home, and then found myself mostly homebound with a lot of my friends out of state, and so this was when I really got online. Youtube-wise, I was watching a lot of Jenna Marbles, Form of Therapy, and lesbian youtubers like Rose and Rosie. I got big into indie game development and started studying 3D game art, which then became a big chunk of my life, and from like 2018-2023 was happily a part of an indie game dev online community. In 2023, I acquired more profound disability and slowly had to give up more and more things, including game dev in 2024. I became more homebound, and then was experiencing but also noticing more ableism everywhere, and eventually found myself in online spaces that were more geared for disabled, chronically ill, immunocompromised, mask-wearing, and homebound and bedbound people. In 2025 when I became fully homebound and almost bedbound, I could only really interact with people online, but found myself very frustrated with the disconnect that non-disabled people couldn't bridge with me. I tried to get more into those disabled community spaces, but eventually removed myself from a lot of social media because of how painful it was to see the highlights of people's lives, out at restaurants and hanging with friends, when I could only leave the house like once a month for a medical appointment. I also was just losing a lot of capacity and didn't have the ability to be upright or on screens for more than a cumulative 1-4 hours a day. So I spent a lot of time contemplating the meaning of connection and "real" relationships.

2026 Now!

It's not just a sad story. Some of my most meaningful relationships have developed exclusively online (shout out Chatoi, R, and EC)! Since February 2026, I've been able to regain a lot of capacity. Not to an abled standard, or even to how I was a couple years ago, but I'm really enjoying watching Smosh, VanillaMace, Gab Smolders, Sagan Hawkes (Sagan especially!), episodes of Miffy, full broadcasts of Cartoon Network from the 2000s, and playthroughs of Silent Hill F. With accommodations to set up my PC in bed, I've enjoyed playing video games again (mostly Overwatch with my sister). I can make art and write laying down. I have had my world opened up with a 2-in-1 rollator-wheelchair that is really sturdy and supportive and has all-terrain tires with shock absorption so I have been able to go out more with my partner, especially knowing they can push me and I won't get stranded anywhere again. I moved in with my partner in September, and now go to 4 medical appointments a month, go to the grocery store with my partner at least once a week, and can go out to an event or movie a couple times a month. I am very appreciative of all the things I am able to do, and am now very critical of the ways in which we're expected to do anything, especially being way more aware of the ableism and classism that's embedded in so much of the world as a disabled person unable to work. So much of society's values in this capitalist hell of the 2020s, in the midst of an ongoing, now 7-year-long pandemic, is that we only have value if we are producing capital. That is so embedded in social media especially, as the algorithms of the attention economy and gen AI extract from our artwork and creativity and joy. So here I am, on the indie web, trying to be human again, trying to resist.

No more polished portfolio site

For a while, I thought to keep my art separate from myself, so I had 2 websites at a time, one secret one, and one art one, but now 3.5 years after having to leave a job I loved, my pursuit of my dream career in game dev, and the workforce entirely, I'm finding no more value in trying to keep my unpalatable self separate from an employable portfolio site, and finding that it's not even possible to separate my artwork from the entirety of who I am, whether fun or vulnerable. ...so here I am expressing it all! All for fun, for my own joy. And back to the "embarassing" fandom shit that is so essential to my enjoyment of life, which I don't even have the energy to hide anymore.
